Pediatrics at Huntington Hospital

The highest level of care for our smallest patients and their families.

Children’s Health

From helping preemies thrive to providing world-class medical care throughout childhood, we provide the highest level of care for our smallest patients and their families. Our prestigious Huntington Hospital team includes a full array of pediatric experts including neonatologists, intensivists, house-based pediatricians, pediatric nurses, respiratory therapists, pediatric general surgeons, a dedicated social worker and a child-life specialist.

Logan Leonard and his family

Logan Leonard was just two days old when he was diagnosed with a serious health condition. Tests revealed that little Logan had Hirschsprung disease, symptoms of which appear in the first 48 hours of life. He lacks special nerve cells in his intestinal muscles, which can lead to obstruction, infection and other serious problems.

Logan’s parents, Elizabeth and Daniel, are thankful for the quick thinking of our staff. “You hear stories of hospitals sending babies home, not recognizing symptoms,” says Elizabeth. “I’m so grateful Huntington Hospital had the expertise. They discovered everything immediately and everyone came together to help our son.”

Logan would need several surgeries – the first at only five days old. He spent ten weeks in our NICU and after his next phase of treatment, he received care for two months in our pediatric unit. He is now at home with his family.

“Logan’s thriving,” says Elizabeth, “and I can’t describe how grateful we are. Everyone was so kind. There are no words to thank them for what they did for our son.”

Immediate Care & Long-Term Support

We not only care for children, but for their families too. We offer social work services, weekly family support meetings, and have a Ronald McDonald House directly across the street. Parents are able to stay with their children overnight and if they don’t wish to leave the room to eat, we are happy to bring their meals to them.

The Ronald McDonald House

We also have a Ronald McDonald House directly across the street. The Pasadena Ronald McDonald House® is a “home-away-from-home” for families with critically-ill children, keeping them close to the doctors and medical care their child needs. The House is built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on the health of their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night to rest.

The Pasadena Ronald McDonald House has 12 bedrooms and is located across the street from Huntington Hospital. Families staying at the House will have access to a fully stocked pantry, meals prepared by volunteer groups, computers, a large yard with outdoor seating and a playground. Activities are coordinated by the House with volunteer groups to help families cope while their child is receiving treatment. Those activities have included pet therapy, recreational activities and parties. Since opening on Valentine’s Day in 2004 the House has served more than 18,500 families. The Pasadena Ronald McDonald House is a program of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California. For more information, please visit their website at www.rmhcsc.org/Pasadena.

For Healthcare Professionals

Not all hospitals provide the necessary services for physicians dealing with children and babies who need a higher level of care. Huntington Hospital has a broad range of services, including ECMOwrap-around cooling, and minimally invasive surgery to support the needs of those young patients who require a level of care not always available in every healthcare setting.

If you have a patient that requires a transfer to a facility such as ours, or need services that your organization does not provide, Huntington Hospital has many treatment options that set us apart in our care for young patients with the highest levels of acuity.
