Breast Cancer Support Services

Caring for More Than Just the Disease

We focus on you as a whole human being with specific individual needs. Of course our expert team provides innovative treatments to get the best outcomes, but we also know that at the center of your cancer journey, is you.

We’ve designed the Huntington Cares program as a pathway with support at every milestone. From nurse navigators who help you process your initial diagnosis using coping skills, to support services that make treatments less difficult, to resources for recovery and beyond, our program provides that extra level of support to help you feel your best throughout this process.

Breast Cancer Support Services

The Huntington Hospital Breast Cancer Center offers a host of unique supportive services. You can learn more about these services below.

Lymphedema Support Group

Facilitated by a certified lymphedema therapist, this monthly class reviews the early signs and symptoms of breast cancer related lymphedema, risk factors, and the do’s and don’ts for managing lymphedema and its side effects
(2nd Wednesday of every month, 3:30-4:30 pm)

NOTE: Due to Covid-19, the hospital is not hosting this group at this time.

Therapeutic Yoga Class

Under the guidance of Farzaneh Noori, a certified yoga instructor and co-owner of the Yoga House in Pasadena, this free therapeutic yoga class for cancer patients offers a synthesis of several natural healing modalities, including: restorative yoga, gentle yoga, deep breathing, meditation, and hands-on healing. All of these promote a state of deep relaxation which enhances the body’s ability to heal itself, and improves one’s sense of well-being. This class will help soothe the stress associated with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. For more information, call the Yoga House at 626-403-3961.
(Every Wednesday, 11:00 am-12:15 pm)

Integrative Oncology Program & Services

Integrating complementary therapies with current standard breast cancer treatment, the Huntington Cancer Center Integrative Oncology program and its providers work with you and your oncologists to help alleviate the side effects of important life-saving treatments.

Led by Suzie Kline, N.P., Ph.D., our program includes acupuncture, massage therapy, and hypnotherapy group sessions to reduce symptoms such as hot flashes, fatigue, insomnia, joint pains, and feelings of stress, depression and anxiety.

“There is always someone there for you at the Breast Center when you are freaking out. There’s a lot of freaking out during breast cancer. Your hair, your skin, you’re losing too much weight … someone was always there for me.”

“I had looked without success for a supportive, private place to find a wig. The cosmetologist was knowledgeable, kind, and supportive, and able to meet me on short notice when I panicked as my hair loss accelerated.”

Professional Help in a Private Setting

The Constance G. Zahorik Appearance Center at Huntington Hospital is named for a breast cancer survivor and philanthropist who believed in a compassionate and comprehensive approach to breast cancer treatment.

When you’re coping with breast cancer, it’s comforting to be cared for with a personal touch. A licensed cosmetologist will help you manage the cosmetic side effects of cancer treatment, including the use of wigs and makeup. Referrals for breast prostheses and bra fittings are also provided.

We are here to help you find the services and support you need:

  • Skin and makeup consultation
  • A selection of attractive wigs
  • Personalized wig fitting and styling
  • Referral to We Care, providers of custom human-hair prostheses
  • Fashionable scarves and hats
  • Sun-protective clothing
