Labor and delivery rooms
At Huntington Hospital, we have labor, delivery and recovery room (LDRs)
for vaginal deliveries and three surgical suites for caesarean section
deliveries all in one area. All of these rooms include the most advanced
equipment and monitoring systems, welcoming baby more safely.
After your baby arrives, we provide quiet time known as The Golden Hour
in Labor and Delivery. Your baby will be placed skin-to-skin to get to
know mom, dad and/or partner. This is not just a great time to bond, but
also helps your baby physically transition to the outside world. After
the first hour, if desired, 3-4 visitors may visit mom and baby in the
LDR. In the case of a cesarean section delivery, the baby can be moved
to the mother’s chest as soon as possible after birth to encourage
bonding during this special time.
Our Mother Baby postpartum unit offers 32 private rooms and 6 rooms designated
for phototherapy and other situations. Here you and your family will be
cared for as you bond with your new baby. All of our family-centered postpartum
rooms include their own private bathroom and shower as well as televisions,
telephones, fully adjustable beds, a bassinet for your baby and sleep
accommodations for your support person.
We encourage nesting time between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to allow for family
bonding and rest.
For you and your family, we provide inpatient room service with unique
restaurant style ordering, the
Bistro Café for guests and our Coffee Shop which offers Starbucks coffee and other

In our commitment to family centered care, Huntington Hospital respects
all types of birthing arrangements and parenting choices. We strive to
meet the special needs of adoptions, surrogacy and same-gender parenting
with sensitivity and compassion. Sometimes, baby or mom may need to stay
in the hospital longer for a medical concern. When space allows, we encourage
our families and babies to stay together, by offering a room on the unit
for use by family during this time.
