Although designed to accommodate 30,000 patient visits per year, Huntington's emergency department (ED) currently sees over 60,000 patients - including 17,000 children.
To address this pressing need, Huntington committed to doubling the size of the ED, enabling it to service 80-90,000 patients per year. The ED will grow from 21 to 50 private emergency care rooms, each universally designed to provide treatment to patients of all levels of intensity and many types of injuries and illnesses.
A CT/radiology area designated for emergency patients will eliminate the need to move patients with life-threatening injuries and save valuable time in the testing process. Waiting space will also be enlarged with plenty of child-friendly areas for pediatric patients and family members.
At a cost of $80 million, Huntington is proud to say that the entire amount will be raised through community philanthropy. Look for completion in December 2011.
