Huntington Memorial Hospital is home to the largest emergency department and only trauma center in the San Gabriel Valley.  The department’s services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Up to 200 patients seek care through the department every day and we see over 60,000 patients per year, the majority of whom suffer medical problems or injuries requiring swift and effective treatment: cardiac arrest, respiratory problems, chest pain or abdominal injuries, for example.  In addition, the Huntington Hospital Emergency Department (ED) treats more than 1,000 patients each year with traumatic life-threatening injuries.

Our ED is designated by the county of Los Angeles as a specialty center for trauma care, stroke, STEMI (heart attack), mental health, and pediatric medical critical care.  We are also a paramedic base hospital where certified emergency department registered nurses guide local paramedics and emergency medical technicians in the medical care that is delivered prior to hospital arrival.

Huntington Hospital was the first hospital in the nation to offer social workers in the emergency medical setting.  These professionals offer counseling as needed to patients and family members impacted by traumatic injuries, sexual abuse, domestic violence, life-threatening illness, loss of a loved one or other crises.  Huntington Hospital is also one of the few hospitals in California that has a specially trained emergency medicine pharmacist in the department to act as a clinical resource to both physicians and nurses.

The scope of our services, however, has never detracted from our compassionate and individualized approach to emergency care. Each patient who comes to Huntington Hospital for treatment finds professionals who have dedicated themselves to prompt, skillful and personalized care. These medical experts—from specially trained nurses to emergency medicine physicians are qualified to respond to the most critical need and to provide state-of-the-art treatment.

We are currently expanding our emergency department in phases.  In late 2011 through 2012 we will care for patients in the eastern portion of our new department while our current space is being renovated.  In 2013 we will occupy our expanded 50 bed unit.
