Internal Medicine Residency Program

Our mission is simple: build a healthier community. It’s what we’ve been doing for over 130 years, and today we’re doing it in more ways than ever before.

Internal Medicine Residency Program

The goal of the Internal Medicine Residency Program is to develop outstanding internists through superior training in primary care for hospital medicine or for subsequent fellowship training in a variety of sub-specialties. The program learning environment allows each resident to acquire not only the requisite clinical skills and medical knowledge, but also the professional attitudes and behaviors, effective communication technique and self-assessment tools that are essential to the successful practice of medicine.

Francesca-Sakamoto

“Huntington Hospital IM program provides a perfect balance for the training I wanted. It is small enough that you know everyone, including sub-specialist attendings with whom you directly work, your attendings who quickly become confidants and advisors, and your co-residents who truly become family. The hospital is also large enough to give you diversity and high-acuity patients, allowing you to see bread and butter cases as well as manage strokes, STEMIs, and level 1 traumas.”

“When considering Huntington Hospital, the term ‘Huntington Family’ is not only a commonly spoken phrase, but more of a mentality and a foundation to our success. Our doctors take pride and ownership of their failures and successes, and are here to help carry each other when in need. I know that this is a place where we prioritize success as a whole, and not individual accolades. This way of being carries us through difficult and stressful times, as we know that the Huntington Family is something we can depend on.”
